My Thoughts
Wow ! I'm writing this the day after I bought the book because I finished this THE DAY i got it. It was so hyped In 2018 and I'm currently trying to catch up with the old hyped books, especially the ones that are getting (or got) movies!! So let's get into it.
This book is told in a few perspectives which I didn't really mind I feel like it helped tell the story. But hears the two main one, The first perspective Is Kyas (The main protagonist) back when she was younger before she's a suspect in a murder case and the second perspective is the polices as they're trying to solve the case, This really saved me when I forgot important details in the story, and helped me to understand better.
Kyas such a sweet heart and definitely my favourite character If you LOVE a strong female role, Kyas exactly where you'll find that. This book had just the right amount of love and spice, Hatred and sadness, It's expressing and refreshing, all the best adjectives topped with an unexpected plot twister!! Did Christmas come early OR WHAT!
I know this book was more popular a few years ago but sometimes it's the book no one is talking about anymore that will always live in the back of your head, and I have a feeling I won't be forgetting this book anytime soon.
I really think it's a pity how though how many people STRONGLY DISLIKED the book. There's quite a few reviews on goodreads (I'll link it at the end) saying the theme or plot of the book kinda confused them if It was about nature or a crime case? I think it's an attempt to savor the tranquility of the lonely marsh when every thing Is chaotic in Kyas mind and well to kinda put the focus elsewhere for a bit, I mean a lonely Marsh girl, probably didn't have much to do and I think Owens just wanted us to see that.
I definitely enjoyed the book the only thing was Kya doing a few dumb things, but what's a book without you getting unrationally annoyed at one of the characters, right?
4.5 Stars
